What have you learned or how have you grown since becoming a YCC instructor?
My heart has expanded since teaching at YCC; I've learned, in hindsight, that each session at YCC offers just what was needed at the time, much like how the seasons of the year support us. Each session has provided the support I needed to navigate various changes in my life: the students are a lifeline as much as the yoga is.

Besides teaching yoga, how do you spend your time?
I have a pet named Henry and he is my favorite yoga teacher. He is a super mutt with sharp intelligence and an affinity for heated blankets. He's an amazing companion who reminds me daily of life's important lessons, like how to stay in the present moment, to unapologetically take up as much space as needed, to reset and rearrange life (and blankets) as many times as it takes, to expect good things, and to love deeply.

What to expect in class: As a former public school teacher, athlete, high school coach, and supporter of the Autism Society of Maryland, Lauren is passionate about bringing to her students a flexible and compassionate teaching style informed by her own deep love of yoga and movement. She brings to yoga an appreciation for the strong, complementary connection between body, mind, and spirit.. Lauren's teaching style encourages her students to find the fun of being in our bodies so that our hearts can experience joy.

Lauren has been a yoga and meditation practitioner for over 20 years and has taught with the Yoga Center of Columbia for two years. She has lately been drawn to exploring myofascial release and yin yoga, and expanding her personal pranayama practices.
