What have you learned or how have you grown since becoming a YCC instructor?

I have learned about the importance of community and friendships. I have made wonderful friends with both staff and students. But, I am a curious person by nature and everytime I walk into the studio I learn. I have learned from instructors, but  most of all I learn from students. As one of my first instructors used to say, "thank you to our students, for they are our greatest teachers!" This is so true for me!

Do you support any community organizations?

For many years I have been part of the Parkinson's community teaching Yoga for People with Parkinson's Disease and Movement disorders. I do some work with the local Parkinson's Foundation chapter and participate in their Movement Day walks. Participants in our yoga classes with PD have found yoga and movements to be incredibly beneficial to managing symptoms and improving daily lives.

What to expect in class: Katie hopes to share with her students the joy that movement and activity can bring at any age or ability. She enjoys the creativity that props such as weights can add to her practice, and seeks to help her students find fun, creative, and accessible ways to enjoy their own practice.

Katie began her yoga journey in 1999 and began teaching in 2010. She holds certifications for teaching yoga to babies, toddlers and children and enjoys practicing with her own three children. Katie is also a certified cycling and group exercise instructor. She loves the way her personal yoga practice enables her to live an active lifestyle, and she enjoys bringing this energy into her classes.
