What have you learned or how have you grown since becoming a YCC instructor?

I've become more compassionate, wise, and creative. I've learned that everything changes, and we have to learn to embrace whatever is happening. I've learned how to care for myself emotionally, physically, and spiritually, and I enjoy helping others find ways to take care of themselves. I feel like I show up better in the world, more available to help others, because I know how to take care of myself.

What are your current areas of interest related to your practice?
Helping people who are experiencing pain, and encouraging people to keep moving, are prime interests. I've had several major orthopedic surgeries since 2018, and have had to overcome alot. Being unwell can feel overwhelming, and I love encouraging people to stack up positive habits.

What to expect in class: Colleen teaches an inviting and fun, alignment-based practice in a wide range of classes, with an emphasis on bringing balance to body, mind, and spirit. She’s especially passionate about helping people recover from injury or illness, and practice within their unique “feels good” place.

Colleen has been teaching yoga since 2008, and teaching at the Yoga Center of Columbia since 2011. She also worked at our YCC desk for about 15 years! When she’s not teaching, you might find Colleen in a kayak, playing with a cat, at the gym, or reading a book. To contact Colleen email her at colleen@risingroad.health.
