Team Practice

I loved two sports when I was a kid, gymnastics and softball. I began gymnastics at age 5 and continued through high school competing on my middle and high school gymnastics teams. I was never very good at it, especially compared to others on my teams, but I loved the practice. Spending a few hours three or four days per week moving my body in ways that did not seem completely possible at times was great fun. It was my first experience with the mind-body connection. If I thought I could do it, then I could. Or at least I could try, and the fun was in the trying, the practice, the attempt. Each day was a new experience in training body, mind, and even the breath played a role. It takes considerable focus to remain balanced on a four inch beam while trying to twirl around and jump gracefully.

Softball is a team sport. It was so satisfying when my bat would connect with the ball and then I could run my heart out around the bases, but it was equally as fun cheering on my teammates. It was great to celebrate our wins together and it was comforting to support each other through losses.

In my new role as Director of Yoga Center of Columbia, I look forward to being a part of the team that is this community. It combines my love of gymnastics and softball together – mind-body practices to hone personal skill and teamwork to help uplift our students and community. Over the next few months you will notice a few updates to the look of the studios and our online presence. Rest assured we will remain the same great community you have come to know and love. Our teachers represent the most highly trained in our area and we are dedicated to offering you the best quality experience possible. Relaxation, better sleep, strength, flexibility, balance — the benefits of yoga, pilates, meditation, and qi gong are real and lasting. Please join us as we evolve together.
